Ranks

All ranks that are and were once available on the server

Ranks are titles that provide players with certain features throughout the Hypixel Network. Some can be acquired either by making a purchase from the Hypixel Store or the In-game Store, or fulfilling certain criteria set by the server. There are some other special ranks not available to the general public, as well as more that have been removed.

Default rank

All players who join the server for the first time are given this rank. The default rank does not give you any gameplay disadvantages. However, it does restrict certain features, limiting the player's overall experience on the server.

Donator ranks

Donator ranks (or donor ranks) are paid ranks that can be purchased on the Hypixel Store, using real currency; or the In-game Store, using the server's paid currency, Gold. These ranks offer various cosmetic and convenient features on the server, forums, and Discord server. These do not offer any gameplay advantages towards the player.

Ranks' prices are deducted based on the user's existing rank. The player will always pay the same price no matter if they upgrade from one rank to another or directly purchase the more expensive rank.

VIP

This rank, in contrary to the other donator ranks, have to be renewed every month. This is not a permanent rank and requires the MVP+ rank to be purchased.

HYPIXEL STAFF

The HYPIXEL STAFF rank is given to all members who work at Hypixel, regardless of their position. It replaced the individual Admin and Game Master ranks. Permissions given may vary depending on the person's job.

  • Access to all permissions, features, and high-level commands on the server
  • Access to the Goliath moderation and administrative framework
  • Ability to issue punishments; in-game, on the forums and on the Discord
  • STAFF avatar frame on the forums
  • Ability to give the Hypixel Badge ratings on the forums.
  • Hypixel Staff rank on the Hypixel Discord server

YOUTUBE

Main article: YouTube Rank

The YOUTUBE rank is a special rank given to YouTube creators and Twitch streamers. This rank offers various perks and advantages to make it easier to create content on the server. It is required to fill out an application form with the minimum criteria to obtain the rank. This rank is also, technically, the only public rank on the server players can get for free.

  • [YOUTUBE] or [YT] nameplate and red name color
  • Full access to the nickname system
    • Bypass to 6-nicks per day limit
    • Option to input custom nicknames
      • Limited to names that don't exist on the Hypixel Network yet
  • Access to Disco Mode in SkyWars, with /disco
    • This sets the time to night, glowing rainbow lights under loot chests, and plays the Disco Mode music for the entire duration of the game
  • Bypass to 30-second /shout delay
  • Ability to vanish in public lobbies, with /vanish
    • Username won't be visible in the Tab menu.
    • Party members and your friends are able to see you
  • Limit of 15 guests on SkyBlock island
  • x10 higher chances of becoming the Murderer and Detective in Murder Mystery
  • Access to YT Cookies, worth 25 regular cookies in Housing
  • Access to all items in Housing
  • Access to 5 exclusive Housing themes, 2 are pre-built
  • Player limit increased to 500-750 in Housing
  • Bypass of anti-cheat setbacks
    • Jumping off ghost blocks won't teleport you back

Requirements

YouTube creators
Long-form/Streamers
  • 30,000+ subscribers for gaming channels with frequent new Minecraft-focused content.
  • 100,000+ subscribers for gaming channels with infrequent new Minecraft-focused content. (Must post gaming content)
  • 1,000+ views on all videos and past streams with a week of uploading. (Minimum increases if uploads are less frequent and/or less regular. This does not apply to shorts content where views are higher on average.)
  • Active channel regularly producing original content with reasonable quality.
  • Have uploaded any Minecraft-related videos along with some public Hypixel Network content.
  • Have not violated the general content guidelines.
  • For streamers: Catalogue of past streams, public or unlisted, available to review.
Shorts

As of now, creators who purely focus on Shorts content are not eligible for the rank as Hypixel believes Shorts are a supplement to long-form content. Creators should instead work on other types of eligible content, such as long-form or streams. Compilations or highlights of Shorts are not considered as long-form content.

Twitch/Streaming platforms
  • 30,000+ followers (default, non-paid tier followers) gained through legitimate means.
  • 50+ concurrent viewers on average; not a one-time spike or peak.
  • Active and regular streaming schedule producing frequent, predictible gaming content with an available and reasonable stream archive.
  • Frequent gaming-focused content, including some Minecraft-focused content.

MOJANG

The MOJANG rank is a special rank given to select employees of Minecraft's main development studio, Mojang Studios. Notable holders of the rank are Dinnerbone, Grumm, Marc, Searge, and etc. It should be noted that not every Mojang employee has this rank.

EVENTS

The EVENTS rank is a unique rank made for multiple server-managed accounts, HypixelEvents, and formerly, HypixelKaraoke. Each are responsible for organizing official server and karaoke events.

Following its discontinuation in August 17, 2020, HypixelKaraoke's rank has been taken and demoted to the VIP rank.[2]

MCP

The MCP rank—which stands for Master Control Panel—is a special rank assigned to a server-managed account, MasterControl. It is speculated that the network's delegators and operators own and manage from this account. According to statements from the forums, the rank is thought to be a bespoke server management and load-balancing system, with further modifications detailed in subsequent update forum threads.[3]

PIG ranks

The PIG ranks are a unique set of ranks, given to late YouTube creator and a massive server influence, Technoblade. The rank is named after his avatar, a pig. There are also the only ranks with cyan + plusses on the nameplates.

Initially, the rank started off as a joke between him and the owner, Simon; as he told Techno that he would receive the rank once he reached 10 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. Instead, the rank was given on June 24, 2019, when he won the first Minecraft Monday event.[4] The nameplate would gain an extra cyan + for every Minecraft Monday event he would win. He would win Week 1, Week 2, Week 6, and Week 10; landing him with +++ plusses on his rank. Simon challenged Technoblade to upload a video every week for the entire summer of 2019 to retain the rank, which he did: posting videos on the event and SkyBlock.

With the devastating news of Technoblade's passing due to sarcoma cancer, it has been stated that the rank will be permanently tied to Technoblade's account. Visiting his in-game memorial in the Main Lobby, his username, along with his rank, is displayed under the archway-entrance.

INNIT

The INNIT rank is a rank given to creator, TommyInnit when he reached 15,000,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel on August 1, 2024. Hypixel promised to make the brackets yellow and add a ‘+’ to the rank if TommyInnit gets a Netflix Comedy Special.[5]

Removed ranks

April Fools' renames

These were renames of certain ranks that took place on April 1st, or April Fools' Day, and would be reverted back to normal the next day. These renames are not annual but when it occurs, it somewhat based on a trending meme at the time.

LOLWAT

These are renames of the existing donator ranks at the time, in reference to the LOLWUT meme. These renames occurred in April 1, 2015.

  • VIP nameplates changed to [LOL] and [LOL+]
  • MVP nameplates changed to [WAT] and [WAT+]

ADMIN (2016)

These are renames of all known ranks of the server at the time, made to look like the ADMIN rank. These renames occurred in April 1, 2016.

  • Donator ranks changed to a [ADMIN] nameplate and red name color
  • Staff ranks changed to a [ADIM] nameplate and red name color
  • YOUTUBE rank changed to a [ADMON] nameplate and red name color

JERRY

These are renames of all known ranks of the server, in reference to a bug in SkyBlock, where the Jerry NPC would duplicate in player's personal islands; which was made popular by Technoblade's Potato War series.[6] These renames occurred in April 1, 2020.

  • MVP nameplates changed to [JRY] and [JRY+]
  • MVP++ nameplate changed to [JRY++]
  • HELPER nameplate changed to [JERRY]
  • GM nameplate changed to [JERRY]

  • YOUTUBE nameplate changed to [YERRY]
  • PIG+++ nameplate changed to [JERRY+++]

Removed staff ranks

GM

Main article: Game Master

The GM rank was given to Game Masters, who are essentially moderators of the server; paid to do moderation tasks and work in deeper areas that greatly impact the player experience.

Applications for the position are listed on the Hypixel Network's job listing page.

ADMIN

Main article: Administrator

The ADMIN rank was given to administrators, the highest level of staff; working as staff managers, customer support, artists, animators, project managers, build team leaders, financers, and operators.

  • Corresponding to which admin, may have access to all permissions on the forums
  • Ability to give the Admin Diamond and Wat ratings on the forums.

OWNER

The OWNER rank was only given to the founders of the server, Hypixel and Rezzus.

HELPER

Main article: Helper

The HELPER rank was given to Helpers, the once-second to lowest volunteer staff rank; focused on helping players and moderate chat. You had to be at least 16-years old, own a donator rank, had access to TeamSpeak, a microphone of decent quality, and must not be staff on any other server, in order to apply for this rank; and even then, you would have be sent to a training stage.

JR HELPER

The JR HELPER rank (abbreviation of Junior Helper) is a limited HELPER, focused on assisting players. This rank was given to players during Summer and Winter who don't meet the age requirement.

It has been confirmed that the rank was discontinued due to issues caused by the Junior Helpers.

  • Rumoured to have higher-priority in player reporting.

MOD

Main article: Moderator

The MOD rank were given to moderators of the server. This was in essence the predecessor to the GM rank, providing roles of management, player assistance, along with application and ban appeals. This rank was given as a stepping stone for HELPERS. With the removal of the HELPER ranks later on, however, it was replaced with the GM rank.

  • Ability to hide in public lobbies, with /vanish
  • Ability to lock, move, delete threads, and ban users on the forums
  • Ability to give the Mod Emerald and Rude ratings on the forums

BUILD TEAM

Main article: Hypixel Build Team

The BUILD TEAM rank was given to builders of the server, responsible for making maps and game lobbies. In July 28, 2020, the rank would be removed and all players with the rank were given the ADMIN rank.

BUILD TEAM+

This rank was a higher up to the BUILD TEAM rank and were given to the administrators and managers of the build team. This rank was eventually removed, with people that had this rank given the regular BUILD TEAM rank, before that rank in turn becoming deprecated at a later date.

Removed special ranks

SPECIAL

The SPECIAL rank was given to the player Chaz_ when a moderator told a helper that he was special to him. Chaz would respond with, "I wish I were special to you." AgentKid, probably out of boredom, gave him this custom rank. This rank would be supposedly removed, but would unexpectedly return after a 3-day server shut-down.

In a couple of days, he would inevitably get approached by a staff member. AgentKid would teleport him to the server's developer world, asking a few questions, such as how he still had the rank after its supposed removal. By then, his rank was finally removed and was replaced with the YOUTUBE rank. As of April 2023, Chaz has the MVP+ rank.

RETIRED

The RETIRED rank was temporarily given to former admin, NoxyD; who would later become the founder of Noxcrew.

BETA TESTER

The BETA TESTER rank was given to players who tested beta-staged minigames, although it was automatically assigned to anyone who played a beta game, accidentally or not; which may have caused its removal.

GOD

The GOD rank was given to player, Helix__Fossil for an extremely short amount of time,[7] as a small joke from the staff team.

ABOVE THE RULES

The ABOVE THE RULES rank was temporarily assigned to AgentKid as a small joke.

MCProHosting

The MCProHosting would be given to HumidMC, the co-founder of MCProHosting. This also is the first ever rank to have lower-case letters.

APPLE

The APPLE rank was given to MonsieurApple for helping out with the server. As of now, his rank has been removed and replaced with the MVP+ rank.

MIXER

The MIXER rank (formerly called BEAM) was given to employees of Mixer, owing to Hypixel's partnership with them. SuitJames and Sacheverell were the only known players to have this rank. However, due to Mixer's shutdown, the rank was removed. SuitJames now has MVP+ and Sacheverell has been given YouTube rank.

ANGUS

This rank was given to PreparedAngus as a personal rank. However, it would later be removed.

SLOTH

The rank was given to SlothPixel— who was Simon's alt account— as a personal rank. However, Simon would later lose the account, and the rank was removed.

CRINGE

The CRINGE rank was temporarily given to YouTuber, Lego_Maestro, as a joke[8][9]

  • Rumored to be the shortest-lived rank on the network, lasting only a couple of seconds.

SALMON

The SALMON rank was given to streamer, Slashcrashcup for around a minute due to him almost crashing the game's servers, simply by using water buckets from the Salmon kit in SkyWars. However, due to him being nicked during his possession of the rank, he wasn't able to type anything, and was too late to do so. Some admins have claimed that the rank never existed in the first place. However, the live stream proves otherwise with chat messages of him gaining and losing the rank.

SkyBlock-exclusive ranks

MINISTER

The MINISTER rank was given to the 7 most popular candidates to lead The Uprising in SkyBlock, who were 2nfg, 56ms, FurryEBoy, Refraction, TimeDeo, and thirtyvirus. They received the rank upon defeating Mayor Dante in the event. 2nfg should have received the rank for being the 2nd most-voted candidate. However, since he was banned, he would not receive the rank.

MAYOR

The MAYOR rank was given to Technoblade for being the most voted candidate and leading The Uprising against Mayor Dante in SkyBlock.

Rank plus colors

For players with the MVP+ and MVP++ ranks, the plus symbols in your nameplate can be customized to an array of different colors. The default + is light red, though more colors can be unlocked by reaching certain level and gifting milestones.

Rank gifting

Rank gifting is a special system that rewards players for buying ranks for others. Ranks will only count as being gifted when done in-game through the in-game store with gold or through the /gift <player> command. This can either be done publicly where the gifter's name will be broadcast in chat or annonymously where the gifter will be labeled as a "kind stranger." The recipient has the option to accept or decline the gift. Gifting ranks gives exclusive collectibles, cosmetics, and other rewards at certain milestones.

When a player gifts a rank, they will radiate with generosity for the next [Confirm?] games they play. When radiating with generosity, all players in the game they are playing will recieve an experience bag, a small amount of Hypixel experience.
