Sheep Wars is a Wool game where two teams battle by launching explosive sheep at each other. It was originally created in the 2021 Admin Game Jam but was shelved until 2024 while the admin team focused on updating other games. The game was released to the Prototype Lobby for public testing on April 15, 2024 and was fully released to the Wool Games lobby on August 14, 2024.

Gameplay

Two teams, red and blue, spawn on separate structures separated by a gap. As players cannot build horizontally across the gap, they must shoot explosive sheep they are given or collect. Players are given sheep over time, but extra sheep power-ups can be collected spawning around the map or from magic wool.

The rate at which sheep are given depends on how many players are left on a team with less players having a shorter delay. Teams with six/five players have a delay of 12 seconds, four/three players: 10 seconds, two players: 8 seconds, and one player: 6 seconds.

Games are single rounds (best of one) and last ten minutes maximum. Players are eliminated by running out of health or falling into the void.

Layout editor

A layout editor can be accessed through the Wool Games shop or in the player's hotbar in the pregame lobby. It changes where items and sheep will be placed in the hotbar by default.

Sheep

Sheep can be launched in two different ways. While holding a sheep item, left clicking will activate a straight shot which makes the sheep travel in a straight line at a moderate speed; right clicking will activate a gravity shot which makes the sheep travel faster, but it is affected by gravity and won't travel as far. Explosive and High Explosive sheep will deal increased damage when shot in this way.

Sheep can be killed in two hits with the sword or bow and drop their respective item. The Healing Sheep is the only sheep which should be thrown on the player's own side. The Onboarding sheep will only spawn further into the game and only spawn 60 seconds after a player dies.

Homing Sheep			Locks onto the nearest player and homes into them after being thrown.
Black Hole Sheep			Creates a black hole that sucks in nearby players and blocks. A title message will notify players when they are in a black hole.
Earthquake Sheep			Creates an earthquake that knocks back players and crumbles nearby blocks. A title message will notify players when they are in an earthquake.
Healing Sheep			Emits an area effect providing regeneration and speed to teammates.
Onboarding Sheep			Allows you to ride this sheep after throwing it. Crouch to dismount.

Power ups

Power ups are either positive effects for the player's team or negative effects for the opposing team. They can be found spawning around the map or can be collected by shooting magic wool.

Magic Wool

Magic Wool is a special block of flaming, color-changing wool that spawns in the sky every 30 seconds throughout the game. Shooting it with a bow will grant a power up or extra sheep to the team. Shooting different colors will grant different effects.

Kits

Six kits are available to use in Sheep Wars, each giving their own unique competitive advantages. Each also has a specific color of pants the player wears to make each easily recognizable.

Shop

The Sheep Wars layout editor, general Wool Games cosmetics, and game settings are available in the Wool Games shop. All cosmetic types are available to use in Sheep Wars.

Game settings

• Default Kit - Changes the kit automatically selected when queueing for a game.
• Projectile Trail - Determines what projectiles have trails. Toggles between All, Sheep Only, Arrows Only, and Off.

Maps

Maps are made of destroyable blocks that will be exploded or broken over time, but the map's "skeleton" (the hardened clay/terracotta blocks of a team's color) will not be destroyed.

Trivia

• Sheep Wars is similar to Sheep Wars from Epicube, a closed Minecraft server, as well as Dynaball from MCC Island.
• Rounds were originally best of five, similar to Wool Wars, but was changed to a single round as players would leave mid-game.
• All blocks not a part of a map's skeleton are able to be mined. The mining speed is significantly increased.
• The magic wool cycles in the order of the wool block ID colors.
