Tournaments are official competitions hosted on the Hypixel server by staff. These were originally introduced on September 2013, but fell off quickly and weren't used again until new tournaments on November 2018. Tournaments are set for a specific game and mode, and players are given a few days to participate for placements and rewards, including a special currency to buy exclusive tournament shop items.

Tournament Structure (2013–2014)[]

Ranking System[]

In tournaments, players would play designated games as normal, though they'd be ranked with a ladder system depending on their performance.[1] Positive performance (wins and kills) would grant players points, while negative performance (deaths and losses) would make players lose points.

Rewards[]

Shortly after the first tournament announcement, Tournament Tokens were introduced onto the Hypixel server.[2] Tournament Tokens functioned similarly to Tributes in modern tournaments; they could be obtained through tournament playtime or high tournament rankings, and could be exchanged for special perks, skins, or items in a tournament shop. In the second official tournament, players could also get store credit for use on the Hypixel Store for ranking high.[3]

Tournaments (2013-2014)[]

The Walls Tournament[]

The Walls Tournament was the first tournament hosted on Hypixel, announced on September 29, 2013 and hosted from October 5 to October 6, 2013.[1] Players could participate by playing The Walls during the 36-hour tournament period, and gained or lost rating depending on their performance. One Tournament Token was given per game, with up to 20 games per player. The tournament results were posted here on October 6, 2013.

Mega Walls Tournament[]

The Mega Walls Tournament was the second tournament hosted on Hypixel, announced on March 2, 2014,[3] and hosted from March 15 to March 16, 2014.[4] Players participated by playing Mega Walls during the tournament period, gaining rating for wins and final kills, and losing rating for losses and final deaths. The top 20 players earned Hypixel Store credit and bonus Tournament Tokens, though up to 20 Tournament Tokens could still be earned by playing games. The tournament results and specific prizes can be found here.

Planned Tournaments[]

On June 9, 2014, AgentK released a to-do thread detailing his plans for the server, mentioning preparations for Blitz Survival Games and Arena Brawl tournaments.[5] These two tournaments were included on a poll of what to focus on, but they did not win the poll, leaving Mega Walls as the last tournament before November 2018.

Tournament Structure (2018–present)[]

On November 2018, a Bed Wars 4v4v4v4 tournament was announced to mark the revival of tournaments. The new tournaments were completely fresh and revamped, introducing a new Tournament Hall lobby to host modern tournaments and rewarding a new currency, Tributes.

Tournament Hall[]

Tournament Hall

The Tournament Hall, as seen in the Bed Wars 4v4v4v4 Tournament announcement.

The Tournament Hall is an exclusive lobby reserved for official tournaments. Players can visit the lobby to view all modern tournaments and their top 10 rankers. Players can also access the Tribute Shop, a shop that sells exclusive perks and cosmetics for the tournament currency, Tributes. The Tournament Hall is only available for some time before and after a tournament is hosted, after which it is unavailable until the next tournament announcement.

Tributes[]

Similar to Tournament Tokens, Tributes are a special currency collected from playing in tournaments, though they are rewarded faster for better performance. A maximum of 100 tributes can be obtained from playtime each tournament, and bonus tributes are given to players who make it onto the leaderboard (usually the top 5000 or 2500 of a tournament). Tributes are used for purchases in the Tribute Shop, which is open with the Tournament Hall and updated for each tournament.

Bed Wars 4v4v4v4[]

Bed Wars 4v4v4v4 was the 1st tournament hosted with the modern structure. It was announced on November 16, 2018 and took place from November 23 to 25, 2018.[6]

Specific point gains and losses varied by bracket, though the methods remained the same. Points could be earned by winning, breaking beds, or getting final kills, while points could be lost from final deaths or losing games. Players were only allowed 20 hours (1,200 minutes) of playtime in the tournament before they were blocked from more.

The results for the tournament can be found here.

Gameicon-Blitz Survival Games

Blitz Duos[]

Blitz Duos was the 2nd modern tournament. It was announced on December 29, 2018 and took place from January 4 to 6, 2019.[7] The map selection was shortened for competitive purposes and the Blitz Stars were limited to four options. However, all kits were unlocked and fully upgraded for tournament games

The tournament was the first and only tournament to use three brackets, as opposed to the five brackets in the Bed Wars 4v4v4v4 tournament. Points could be earned by winning or killing other players, while they could be lost by losing a game. The maximum playtime was shortened from 20 hours to 12 hours due to the older limit being "very draining on our players".

The results for the tournament can be found here.

Gameicon-SkyWars

SkyWars Crazy Solo[]

SkyWars Crazy Solo was the 3rd modern tournament. It was announced on March 8, 2019 and took place from March 15 to 17, 2019.[8] Crazy mode is a buffed and balanced variant of Insane mode; it included stronger chests drops, guaranteed diamond armor in middle chests, and less refills. The tournament restricted some maps and perks, added three new maps for tournament use (Heaven Palace, Hanging Gardens, and Roots), and kits/perks were fully upgraded among other changes to balance the mode.

The tournament returned to five brackets from the first tournament. Points were given with kills and wins, but bonus points were also given for first blood (getting the first kill in the game), and last kill (getting the last kill in the game).

The results for the tournament can be found here.

Gameicon-Cops and Crims

Cops and Crims Defusal[]

Cops and Crims Defusal was the 4th modern tournament. It was announced on October 15, 2019 and took place from October 25 to 27, 2019.[9] All upgrades were fully unlocked, price upgrades were disabled and map selection was restricted in the tournament mode.

Tournament playtime was limited to eight hours, blocking progress after reaching the limit. Points were given to players for winning rounds and lost for losing rounds.

The results for the tournament can be found here.

Gameicon-Bed Wars

Bed Wars 4v4[]

Bed Wars 4v4 was the 5th modern tournament. It was announced on December 6, 2019 and took place from December 13 to 15, 2019.[10] The tournament added four new maps (Cryptic, Gardens, Lions Temple, and Ruins) due to the lack of maps in the 4v4 mode. Other changes included removing obsidian, dragons being replaced by a shrinking world border, and speed of generators being increased.

Rather than limiting hours of playtime, this tournament introduced a new system of limiting tournament games, having a limit of 75 games before blocking tournament progress. Points were given to players for winning or breaking beds and lost for losing beds.

The results for the tournament can be found here.

Gameicon-Quakecraft

Quakecraft Solo[]

Quakecraft Solos was the 6th modern tournament. It was announced on January 4, 2020 and took place from January 31 to February 2, 2020.[11] Trigger speed and dash cooldown upgrades were fully unlocked for the tournament.

This tournament had a limit of 250 games before blocking tournament progress. This tournament also changed the process of moving through brackets, now using total points collected in a game instead of ending performance. Points were earned by killing players and placing in the top four of a game (points vary by position). They could not be lost, but failing to reach a certain amount of points in a game would result in a demotion or no bracket change.

The results for the tournament can be found here.

Gameicon-SkyWars

SkyWars Doubles Insane[]

SkyWars Doubles Insane was the 7th modern tournament. It was announced on March 27, 2020 and took place from April 3 to 5, 2020.[12] The tournament took place in the SkyWars Doubles Insane mode, with all insane kits being unlocked (except Frog, which was disabled for all players) and all doubles perks being fully upgraded in the tournament game.

This tournament had a limit of 120 games before blocking tournament progress. Bracket changes continued being determined by points collected during a game. This tournament uses the first blood bonus and auto-equip armor features from the SkyWars Crazy Solo tournament, but excludes the Last Kill point bonus. Points are rewarded for obtaining kills, assists, first blood, and winning the game.

The results for the tournament can be found here.

This tournament had a limit of 80 games before blocking tournament progress. Bracket changes are still determined by points earned in a game, but points could be deducted this time for poor performance.
